The Starting Line Brings Pop-Punk Glory to The Novo

I vividly remember being eight years old and seeing the music video for The Starting Line’s “The Best of Me” on YouTube in 2002. I instantly became a fan. Their catchy guitars and infectious choruses ripped through my ears, and as I grew through my teenage years, the band grew with me. Over the years, their lyrical topics matured, and frontman Kenny Vasoli’s voice became noticeably deeper with each release.

When the band eventually went on hiatus in 2008, I felt a hole in my heart and assumed I’d never get a chance to see them live. After a few reunions throughout the 2010s, The Starting Line finally came back together more permanently, almost 17 years later, and released their new album, Eternal Youth. It felt like the perfect moment to finally catch a show.

Color, Catharsis, and Crowd-Pleasers on All Time Low's 'Everyone's Talking' Tour

All Time Low is one of the most formative pop-punk bands of the mid-to-late 2000s, bursting onto the scene with brightly colored skinny jeans and swooped hair. Now, 20 years into their career and 10 albums deep, they’ve proven they’re here to stay.

Their latest album, Everyone’s Talking, arrived on October 17, and the band kicked off an eponymous tour to support it. I’ve been listening since middle school, so on a personal level, I was excited to finally see them in Los Angeles at the YouTube Theater on October 22—just days after the album drop.

[Event] K-Pop Breakout Tour stops in Los Angeles with ICHILLIN', CRAXY, and TRENDZ, who help set a new standard for variety concerts

K-pop variety concerts can be hard to pull off. From an artist standpoint, organizers need to figure out which ones to invite, check their availability, and whether they’re popular enough to draw a crowd. On top of that, organizers have to also figure out how long each set is, providing enough time for each artist to feel like a substantial enough addition to the concert.

[Event] ATEEZ braves the rain & delays in New York to conquer their ‘Towards The Light’ world tour stage - Asian Junkie

It hasn’t been the best time in New York these past few days, with the weather being pretty terrible and bringing intermittent rain. I was in the city for a business trip, so I figured why not check out ATEEZ while they’re in town? The group stopped by Brooklyn during its Towards the Light: Will to Power world tour and I had a fun time despite the massive start delay and pouring rain.

IVE bust out the sub-units and adapt well to Texas on their ‘Show What I Have World Tour’

IVE’s Wonyoung excitedly gushed about how much she loved Texas barbeque. The crowd erupted in applause as state pride flooded the Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, Texas. This was IVE’s first time in Texas, so the group was able to experience one of the best cultural aspects the state had to offer.

ENHYPEN live in Dallas: the K-pop boyband bring the heat to a chilly night

In October, you’d expect autumn leaves on the ground but Texas is one of the few states that stays relatively hot during the traditional fall months. However, Dallas’s temperature was unusually cooler the day (October 14) that ENHYPEN took the stage – but the superstar K-pop boyband ignited a fire in the audience that made Texas feel like its usual scorching self again.

It was also a special day: Heeseung’s 22nd birthday, and the rest of ENHYPEN celebrated it along with the fanatic audience.
